Georgia Organics is hosting an Organic Growers Farmer Field Day (OGFFD) on Monday, July 1, 2024, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Oxford College Farm in Oxford, GA. Organic Growers Farmer Field Days are educational workshops specifically geared towards transitioning and Certified Organic farmers.
The field day will begin with a farm tour led by Daniel Parson, a farmer-educator with over 25 years of Certified Organic farming experience. Afterwards, three educational sessions will take place, led by researchers and experts from UGA Entomology and UGA Extension.
Educational Session 1: Effects of soil fertility on plant health and insects (UGA Entomology - Dr. William Snyder and Carly Sharp, PhD candidate & UGA Extension - Gabrielle LaTora)
Educational Session 2: Science of soil fertility and creating fertility management plans (Oxford College Farm - Daniel Parson)
Educational Session 3: Organic pesticide management and application workshop (UGA Entomology – Dr. Alton Sparks)
THIS FIELD DAY WILL BE HIGHLY VALUABLE FOR:
Crop producers interested in organic farming practices
Growers who want to learn how soil fertility impacts their crop yields and insect pest pressures
Growers who want to learn more about balancing soil fertility and creating a fertility management plan
Growers who want to learn proper preparation and application of organic pesticides, and the necessary steps to get a pesticide applicator license
Growers interested in meeting, learning, and connecting with Georgia-based researchers focused on soil fertility and Organic pest management
Georgia Organics hopes that this Organic Growers Farmer Field Day will support transitioning and current Certified Organic growers interested in managing their soil fertility and learning about the organic pesticide tools available to them. Farmers will gain technical knowledge on how to apply research-based practices on their own farm.
